My boyfriend & I met online in 2015.  We had our 1st "date" on his birthday in April, a few months after we met.  This was where we ate.  I had been going here since I moved to Pasadena in 2011 but this was his first time.  We walked in & he immediately liked the atmosphere & wanted to eat there instead of taking it home.  He was just learning how to use chop sticks & no better place to learn but here.  You cannot go wrong with the food, at all.  Everything is GREAT!  4 years later we still order it when he comes down for the weekend.  We ordered over the weekend & tried the fried chicken for the 1st time...so good!  If you don't like spicy, this is not for you!
Their food is great, service is great, & their sushi is made fresh!
You've got a long time customer with me!

The food was really great when I first brought it home to have for dinner the other night. Even when I brought everything home, it stayed surprisingly super hot too! Which was amazing. I first started with the Eff Flower Soup, which has corn kernels in it, which I really like. It was hot and very flavorful and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

I had a real issue with the Mapo Tofu. I ordered it medium spicy, which it was (but it was still really spicy for me), but the major problem I had was that it was it completely made my tongue and mouth numb instantly. I was really, really concerned about this and stopped myself from eating any further in case it was some strange allergic reaction, but I actually think they add SZECHUAN PEPPERCORN in this recipe, which is known for leaving a stinging and numbing sensation on the tongue. This was very new for me so it really caught me off guard, so if this happens to you, please do not be scared!

The next dish was the Eggplant with Pork over Rice. I was pleasantly surprised by how giant and tender the eggplant was. The peel was a bit hard to eat, but I could rip it with my teeth and it was fine. The pork (on the first day) was also really tender and generous too. The sauce was mostly soy and garlic, but I wish there was a tiny bit of pepper or some sort of kick in there. The rice was hot and flaky and went well with the juices from the pork and eggplant and sauce above it. I wish it was a little more flavorful, after eating 2-3 bites, it got a little boring, but it was still really good.

The MAIN problem: I wasn't certain about this at first, but there was a feeling of "slime" in my mouth eating their food. I'm not sure if they were using old ingredients, but I think that might be the case. It wasn't just one of the dishes, but it was all of them. When it's eaten hot, you can't tell. But the second the food starting cooling down, something felt slimy in my mouth. On the first day, I couldn't really notice it too much so I ignored it, maybe it was just me. But when I reheated everything the next day, it was a major issue. I wasn't even able to eat ANY of the fried rice because it was almost gooey and slimy. Something was off. Everything was off. So I threw EVERYTHING out.

I want to chuck it to bad timing for me and I went on a day before they got fresh materials in, but that's actually NOT an excuse for a restaurant. I will not be returning to this Chinese spot again due to these first time issues. There are a few other very affordable Chinese options in the area so if you have recommendations, please let me know as I am new to the area!

    So, so disappointed.

Here's the main takeaway: when most restaurants on July 4th are closed, and this one is open? AND there's no one else in it? That should have told us something right there.

Truth was, we were skipping festivities and just wanted some good Chinese food before seeing a movie. We got Chinese food; it just wasn't very good.

First off, we ordered a Chicken Lettuce cup as an appetizer; the curt waitress eventually brought it to us as the 2nd to last item that arrived on the table. Huh? And even though there was no 'spicy' icon next to it on the menu, all of us found it not just spicy but overly and needlessly so. Also, the portion was ENORMOUS: they brought us virtually an entire head of lettuce and a huge mound of this stuff on a plate. It could have easily been an entrée for two or more.

We also ordered an edamame salad -- that sounded intriguing, and the idea of a salad instead of our customary soup sounded refreshing on a warm day -- but what we got was a hot, steaming, virtually tasteless mound of edamame and nothing else. I asked our server "this is a SALAD?" and she simply replied, "yes" and walked off. Um... OK.

The Moo-Shu vegetables were watery and flaccid; the string bean and egg fried rice was ... OK. Except there weren't any string beans in it. And the House Special Peking Duck, which was definitely was an unusual menu item for a place like this, was ... oh, how can I put it? TERRIBLE. Our guess is they have it brought in from somewhere else. It apparently must take a very long truck journey for it to arrive at the restaurant. The less said about it the better.

OK, moving on, nothing to see here!

Ordered through Grubhub but the restaurant delivers.
    They were late but apologized
The chow mein was as plain as can be.
The beef and onion was 95 percent onion I couldn't find the beef.
The kung pao was the reason I'm here with a 1 star. It was disgusting chicken drowning in greasy sauce. The chicken was the inedible chicken . We ate and spit it out. Very dissapointed.

I've been frequenting this place for some time now, and it's really good Chinese food! I'm vegan but I often come with my non-vegan boyfriend and his family, and we all love it. I used to be vegetarian and would always order the chow mein which is delicious, but not vegan. So after coming here for the first time as vegan, I was very happy with the selection! Ask for the general tso's crispy tofu. It's not on the menu but it's amazing. Probably one of the best spots I've gotten tofu from. It's perfectly crispy on the outside but soft enough on the inside. It's a little spicy but not unbearable! I asked my waiter about a vegan alternative for chow mein, and he suggested the chow fun noodles - they're rice based instead of egg based. Wow! They were delicious! The serving sizes were also huge and more than enough for two people (two of us split the tofu and noodles and still had leftovers). My boyfriend also got the Taro Milk Tea. I used to come here all the time just for boba when I wasn't vegan - definitely recommend mend if that's your thing!

I haven't ordered delivery, so I can't speak to that. There's plenty of parking here and that's always a plus. The service isn't the most attentive but they've always been nice. It's definitely no up scale place, but usually the worse the interior is the best the food is in my opinion. I will keep coming back for the tofu!
